My Name is Emersyn
It’s so good to meet you.
I am a registered psychotherapist (qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I am passionate about helping others as they journey towards overall wellness, enhanced mental well-being, healing and growth.
Rebel, Rebel
I’m a proud rebel. I think I was born a rebel – I came into the world two months early.
Like everyone, my own story is one defined by pain and loss, joy and wonder, trauma and change, and growth and healing. Something that has given me enormous strength throughout my life is that learning is always available to us, and that through our learning we can shift how we see the world, integrate new perspectives into our being, and use this newfound awareness and knowing to lead our decision-making and how we choose to show up in the world, and in our relationships.
This has been one of the key beliefs I have held that has given me hope and faith to keep going, to keep trying, and to trust that my desired future is within the realm of possibilities. So, despite the tragic or traumatic experiences that have shaped my life, I have always persisted and chosen to learn as best I could to reclaim my power and empower myself to grow, and heal. It’s not easy. I know firsthand how hard it is to do the inner work to confront the pain, to cultivate awareness, to engage in healing work, and challenge oneself to use that insight and transmute it into change.
The purpose of sharing my truth with you is this: I have been where you are – choosing to embrace the hard work of self inquiry. Our lived experiences might be vastly different, but despite our differences I understand how difficult, overwhelming, exciting and frightening it can be to make the decision to confront yourself and in doing so, invite healing and growth. I also understand that choosing to do the inner work is not easy.
My assurance to you is that I have, and continue to, make the decision to do the inner work – to persist and challenge myself to cultivate expanded awareness, develop new skills and capacities, and to heal, grow and shift as a human being, with the purpose of honouring my inner rebel – my true authentic self. The importance and value of this is that I am coming to our therapeutic relationship fully embodied. It also means that my continued journey of growth and healing, empowerment and authenticity, means that I am always evolving into a more thoughtful, wise, and compassionate therapist.
It takes a little bit of rebellion and defiance to choose yourself. To choose to do the hard thing. To do the inner work so you can find the courage and confidence needed to bring your authentic self to your relationships and to the wide world. My passion is to support others as they journey within to get in touch with their inner rebel. It’s a rebellious act to be authentic and to live in alignment with your values and principles. My hope is that my personal journey can serve as an anchor and source of comfort to you as you embark on your own therapeutic journey towards unleashing your inner rebel.

Education
I earned my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree, with distinction, from Yorkville University. My areas of focus included trauma, attachment theory and relationships, spirituality and existentialism across the lifespan, narrative and growth frameworks, emotional regulation techniques, and experiential skills development. Therapeutically, I work from an humanistic and integrative approach, weaving together psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, and intuitive frameworks that emphasize healing through growth, and skills development through experiential methods.
I also hold a specialized honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Childhood & Social Institutions, with a minor in Thanatology, earned from Kings University College at Western University. My interdisciplinary undergraduate program focused on family systems, child and adolescent psychological development, and the role of social institutions in influencing the growth trajectory of youth, with an emphasis on therapeutic approaches and interventions, and special attention to grief, bereavement, and loss.

My Passion for Learning & Personal Growth
I am passionate about personal growth, expanding my mind, and challenging myself to stretch beyond the contours of my comfort zone. My love for learning and insatiable curiosity has been a guiding light for me throughout life. Continuous learning has always been essential for my well-being. It is an empowering means of exercising my personal power that I find comforting and expansive. Learning and striving towards personal growth has been a lifelong commitment and drive, a wellspring of hope. A growth mindset has been one of the most protective personal characteristics that has lent itself to my resiliency, growth, and healing.
Expanding my mind is something that excites me and lights me up! I am consistently reading research literature, attending webinars and completing courses. Naturally, one of my favourite subjects to research, and expand my thinking and learning on, is counselling psychology! However, as a spiritual creature, I am also deeply interested in, and passionate about, mystical, transcendental, and arcane forms of magic and transformation found in unconventional, alternative, or sacred traditions, rituals, faiths, and teachings.
I believe in the importance of taking an intersectional and inter-disciplinary approach to learning, which means I indulge in learning across many disciplines and subjects, always striving to synthesize what I have learned across domains. I am passionate about learning, through reading and research, but I am also mindful to indulge in learning through conversations with others, learning outside perspectives and considering new ideas beyond my own worldview. Learning is not only the acquisition of knowledge – learning is also the process of taking time to reflect on that which we have learned to reconsider, and expand, our relationship to self and others, putting into practice what we learn through the development of skills, and expanding our thinking and seeing that reflected in how we make decisions or engage in the world. I strive to integrate my learning in intentional and purposeful ways.
My commitment to learning and personal growth is a gift I eagerly and proudly share with my clients through my work as a psychotherapist. The knowledge, insight, and wisdom that lives within me is something that guides how I show up as a psychotherapist. I am driven to provide a high quality and standard of care, backed by empirical evidence and research literature, while interweaving wisdom and knowledge gained from my own hard-earned growth journey, and from practices outside traditional models of care and self-inquiry.
